Top Futuristic Student November 2018 – Lachlan Fitzgerald- Wesley College
Lachlan is our top student for November 2018. We sat down with him to find out how Futuristic Skills has helped him at school and beyond.
“My name is Lachlan and I am currently in Year 11 at Wesley College. I enjoy my sport, in particular, Cricket and AFL, as well as traveling with my family within Australia and internationally. Whilst at Wesley, I have been lucky enough to travel to West Timor and America on Service and Leadership tours.
The West Timor experience was a pivotal moment in my life and provided me a cultural experience which has taught me a range of leadership skills which have been transferable to my life at Wesley and in the greater community. Likewise, the LEAP leadership tour to the University of California in Los Angeles was an opportunity to develop new networks of mentors, role models, and friends in the United States, which I have been able to stay in contact with since coming back to Perth.
One thing that I have learned through these experiences and my schooling is that opportunities don’t come to you but you have to personally make them happen yourself. In recent times, I have been awarded with the Geography. Engineering Studies and Science prizes for Academic Achievement as well as the City of South Perth Citizenship Prize. I am also involved in the First XI Cricket team, Melville District Cricket Club, and umpire junior AFL.
I try to volunteer my time to the community as much as possible and have recently completed the 24-hour Batting Challenge for telethon with three other Wesley boys, Relay for Life and the Uniting Care Foodbank service. In 2018, I have been given the opportunity to be College Captain, which is an honour that I look forward to next year. Currently, I am striving for a scholarship to an interstate university to follow my dream to become an Environmental Engineer beyond school.”
